NOTES:
This is something my friend Joe Lane created 50 plus years ago.
Looks like my handwriting, but Joe is credited as author.
Originally just a chorus and there were no chords shown.
I guess we were saving the rest for a later day.
Now 50 plus years later I'm attempting to put his chorus together with some verse, chords, etc..
That's his high school senior photo shown above. The smile is 100% genuine Joe Lane.
This song utilizes two keys, Key of G (verse) and Key of D (chorus).
The verse allows "spoken" lyrics to migrate into Key of G.
The chorus provides a strum of the D chord to provide the pitch to the new key.
I wanted the "brighter" key of D for the banana plantation chorus.
I'm keeping the lyrics for previous versions around for awhile because
there are some things I like from each version.
Maybe someday I'll combine the best from all versions and update to a version that will satisfy me.
There are bits and pieces from all the versions that I like, but I'm having problems putting everything
I'd like to say in an easily singable form that meshes with the other parts of the song.
And then there's the whole issue of me being able to sing without getting off key and mumbling and without
making mistakes on the guitar... just don't seem to be able to make it through 3-4 minutes of recording mistake free.
It appears John Keskinin has written a song with the same name. But it's a much different song. See: https://www.reverbnation.com/johnkeskinen/ STATUS: Latest version December 5, 2023. Third Draft recorded February 8, 2023. Second Draft completed February 1, 2023. First Draft completed December 2022. Initial concept (chorus) by Joe Lane, 1972. AUDIO RECORDINGS: No fancy equipment or editing. These recordings are chock-full of mistakes in singing, lyrics and guitar playing. They aren't meant for the top 40 list. But they should give someone an idea of how I intended the song to sound. I will continue trying to get the "perfect" recording, but don't hold your breath too long waiting. |
